President Vladimir Putin posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Russia to Captain Adam Khamkhoev, who died during a special operation in Ukraine, according to website of the head of Ingushetia, Mahmud-Ali Kalimatov.
Khamkhoev— nephew of Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, who was previously the President of Ingushetia and now holds the post of Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia.
The military title was awarded “for courage and heroism shown in the performance of military duty”.
Khamkhoev was a graduate of the Ryazan Guards Higher Airborne Command School, served under contract in Ulyanovsk. During a special operation in Ukraine, he commanded an airborne assault company. On May 19, he was seriously wounded during an offensive in the Severodonetsk direction. He refused to evacuate “and, being at the forefront, continued to manage the company,” the press service of the head of Ingushetia reported.
On the night of May 20-21, Khamkhoev died. He was buried at home.
Since the end of February, the Ministry of Defense has reported twice about Russian losses. As of March 25, 1,351 Russian servicemen were killed and 3,825 were wounded during the special operation.
