Nipsey Hussle – “Dedication” (ft. Kendrick Lamar)

In the wake of his third full-length masterwork DAMN., Kendrick Lamar has not disappeared. On the contrary he has felt as omnipresent as ever thanks to well-curated guest appearances, including Rich the Kid’s “New Freezer” (a current Billboard hit) and Jay Rock’s “King’s Dead,” off the TDE-helmed Black Panther soundtrack on which he stars across a host of tracks even when uncredited. His newest guest spot comes alongside fellow L.A. rapper Nipsey Hussle, who has managed to keep his name in the news over the past few years for reasons both good (“FDT”) and bad (homophobia). “Dedication” is about what you’d expect—a thick West Coast production over which both rappers sound very at home.

Watch Kendrick Lamar Intense Grammy Opening Performance

Kendrick Lamar opens the Grammy awards with an intense and well received performance.

The Compton rap legend kicked off his performance with “XXX” with his legion of masked dancers clad in military themed outfits while Dave Chappelle chimed in in-between takes to inject a little laughter. “I just wanted to remind the audience that the only thing more frightening than watching a black man be honest in America, is being an honest black man in America,” the comedian said. The lights on the stage went out for a few seconds and when it came back on, rockers U2’s Bono and The Edge were on the stage to get some of the action.

Kendrick Lamar already picked up an early Grammy for Best Rap Song for “Loyalty” featuring Rihanna off his album DAMN. The TDE rapper is also nominated for Best Rap Album and Album of the Year. Stay tuned to DancehallHipHop.com for more updates.

Kendrick Lamar Drops Romantic Video For “Love” Feat. Zacari

Kendrick Lamar serves up a romantic video for his DAMN. single “Love” featuring Zacari.

More than six months after dropping the landmark album, K-Dot continues to deliver new visuals from the project. The cut was directed by Dave Meyers and Kendrick himself who put the idea together. The video starts out with the Compton rapper contemplating life on the beach while watching the sunset. The clip then transitioned into his romantic life while showcasing the ups and downs and the good and the bad of being in a relationship.

The cut shows scenes where Kendrick Lamar is laughing with his girlfriend through some happy moments and other times when they are arguing and resents each other where you can see him drinking alone. That then leads him to get a taste of the fast life and bright city lights with women surrounding him.

After going for a ride around the city with Zacari, he then makes his way back home to the welcoming arms of his girl. Kendrick Lamar already released videos for other singles featured on DAMN. including “HUMBLE” and “LOYALTY” featuring Rihanna.

The Compton rapper delivers a version of his chart-topping album DAMN for collectors aka DAMN. Collectors Edition. For this edition, he released the album with the songs in reverse starting with “DUCKWORTH” and ending with “BLOOD. The 14-track album features collaborations with Rihanna on “LOYALTY.,” U2 on “XXX.,” and Zacari on the single “LOVE.” During an interview with MTV in the summer, Kendrick Lamar opened up about why he decided to drop the album in reverse, saying he got the idea from fans. “I think like a week after the album came out, [fans] realized you can play the album backwards,” K-Dot said. “It plays as a full story and even a better rhythm. It’s one of my favorite rhythms and tempos within the album. It’s something that we definitely premeditate while we’re in the studio.”

Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Damn.’ Tops Rolling Stone Best Albums Of 2017

Kendrick Lamar is soaring high on Rolling Stone list of 50 Best Albums of 2017.

There are very little folks who would disagree that Kendrick Lamar drops one of the best, if not the best, albums this year, DAMN. So it should come as no surprise that Rolling Stone named the project the best album of the year. The LP sold 603,000 album-equivalent units in its first week to open at the top of the Billboard 200 chart in April of this year. It went on to top the chart for four non-consecutive weeks and has since sold over 800,000 traditional album units and over 2 million album-equivalent units.

The album DAMN. has already picked up an American Music Award for Favorite Album Rap/Hip-Hop Album and a BET Hip Hop Award for Album of the Year. The project is also one to watch for the upcoming Grammy Awards. With the release of DAMN, Kendrick Lamar cemented his place as one of the top five rappers of this generation, a topic that is a constant debate in hip hop culture.

Further down on Rolling Stone’s list of 50 Best Albums of 2017, Migos album Culture ranked number nine following an impressive run this year as trap music begins to gain more traction in the mainstream. JAY-Z’s critically acclaimed new album 4:44 ranked number twelve and some of the rap legend’s fans are not too happy about that and think the project should at least be top five this year. “Hov’s 4:44 is easily top five albums this year, no way some of these pop artists drop a better project that Hov please revise this list,” one fan wrote.

SZA’s Ctrl came in at number twenty, while Drake’s More Life came in at number 27 just one place higher than Vince Staples’ Big Fish Theory. Chronixx is the only reggae artist to make the list with his Chronology album ranking 48.

Lil Uzi Vert Scores First Billboard Number One Album With ‘Luv Is Rage 2’

Lil Uzi Vert debut album Luv Is Rage 2 just earned him his first ever number one album on the Billboard 200 chart.

The highly anticipated project was released last month and went on to sell 135,000 equivalent album units in the first week, 28,000 of those were from traditional album sales, according to Billboard. Lil Uzi Vert has been having a phenomenal year and scored the biggest single of the summer with his single “XO Tour Llif3.” Luv Is Rage 2 also earns the Philly rapper the third streaming debut of 2017 with only Drake’s More Life and Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN showing stronger streaming numbers than him.

This week we also saw rap newcomer XXXTentacion taking the number two spot with his debut album 17. The project sold 87,000 equivalent units in the first week. Fifth Harmony’s self-titled album came in at number four and Kendrick Lamar hold the fifth position with his album continuing to show strong sales with 45,000 copies sold in the last week.

Lil Uzi Vert debut the music video for “XO Tour Llif3” on Monday with his tour mate The Weeknd making a cameo in the gory video. The single won Song of the Summer at the recently held 2017 MTV Video Music Awards.

Kendrick Lamar Celebrates DAMN Going Double Platinum

Kendrick Lamar has a lot to celebrate this week with his tour selling out and his album DAMN being certified double platinum.

The album has the biggest debut week so far this year outside of JAY-Z‘s 4:44 which was certified platinum within the first week. DAMN sold 605,000 copies in the first week and debut at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. Kendrick Lamar posted a photo of his double platinum plaque on Instagram that he got from the Record Industry Association of America, RIAA.

“These murals forever belong to my fans,” Kung Fu Kenny wrote. “You’ve always taken my words above and beyond. Around the world and back again. With trust. I am forever grateful. 2x.” Fourteen weeks after the album release, DAMN is still doing well on the Billboard 200 chart with 56,000 copies sold in the last week. That is more than a lot of artists first week sales. The album sits at number two on the chart behind JAY-Z’s landmark album.

Kendrick Lamar is currently touring North America for his “The DAMN Tour” and he is getting some support from his rap peers including Chance the Rapper and J. Cole who made guest appearances at his shows in Chicago and Detroit this week respectively.

Watch Kendrick Lamar Bringing Out J. Cole For DAMN Tour In Detroit

J. Cole made a surprise appearance on Kendrick Lamar‘s DAMN Tour stop in Detroit on Wednesday night.

The Compton rapper was performing at Detroit’s Palace of Auburn Hills for another sold out show on his DAMN trek across the U.S. and Canada. Coincidentally, J. Cole performed at the same venue the night before for his “4 Your Eyez Only Tour” and was still in the city so he made a surprise stop to greet Kendrick Lamar’s fans.

In the video clip below you can see J. Cole coming up from below the stage and went straight into his single “Deja Vu” off his latest album 4 Your Eyez Only. With K-Dot on stage with him, the Dreamville emcee ran through a medley of his hits like “No Role Modelz” and “A Tale of 2 Citiez.” This rare joint appearance on the same stage only fuels more speculations about a joint album between the two.

Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole are two of the most respected young rappers in the game right now with solid efforts coming from them over the years. A joint project has been rumored to be in the works for years now, since around 2012. This is the clearest sign yet that that project could come next.
